Reference map of British Columbia

I was tasked to produce a reference map of British Columbia, Canada. The map had to include the main geological features in BC, including the water bodies and the mountain ranges.

I learnt the numerous cartography conventions and applied it in the design of this map. For example, the water bodies are usually in blue and their labels are italicized. I refered to Google Maps and other reference maps to ensure the locational accuracy of the features in my map. Much effort was put in to ensure the aesthetic appeal and readability of the map.

Visual hierarchy was an important element that I focused on. As there are 4 levels of cities by population size, I differentiated them by using different colors and by varying the font size and style (bold/not bold) of the labels. I also made British Columbia stand out by fading the other land into the background with a pale grey colour.
